I have used following techniques in this 3ds max tutorial.
Editable poly techniques

[1]-First of all you will press (ctrl +N) now you will see the new window is open
Click on the Geometry > Extended primitives > Capsule and use the following setting
Create a Chamfer Box in the front view and set like this in the left view

[2]-Select the Capsule right click Convert into Editable poly then select Polygon mode in the Editable poly
And make a selection like this in the left view

[3]-Now click on the Extrude button you will see the Extrude Polygons palette is open
Use the following setting your object should like this in the Left view

[4]-Again select the Polygon Mode
In the Edit poly Modifier and make a selection likes this

[5]-Now click on the Extrude button you will see the Extrude Polygons palette is open
Use the following setting your object should like this in the left view

[6]-Use the following setting create a cylinder like this front view
Set like this in the left view

[7]-Again use the following setting create a cylinder like this top view
Set like this in the left view

[8]-Select the Cylinder right click Convert into Editable poly then select Polygon mode in the Editable poly
And make a selection like this in the top view

[9]-Now click on the Extrude button you will see the Extrude Polygons palette is open
Use the following setting your object should like this in the left view

[10]-Use the following setting creates a Box and set like this in the front view
Select the Box drag it and release you will see
The clone option window is open then uses the following setting
Your image should like this in the front view

[11]-Open the Material Window
In the First, third, fourth material just selects the color and gives some shining
In the second Material an import a map like this and assign in the cylinder
